World sandwich day

World sandwich day is celebrated November 3, it is devoted to one of the most popular fast food dishes. A sandwich is a type of sandwich named after John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich.

Lord Sandwich was an English diplomat who served as the First Lord of the Admiralty. According to the most common version of the sandwich's origin, Lord was a gambler and did not want to get up from the card table for food.

So he ordered a servant to put cold beef between two toasted slices of bread and bring it to him, so that he could eat without a knife or fork, without looking up from the game and getting the cards dirty. Soon other players started asking for "the same thing as a Sandwich", and later the dish was referred to simply as a sandwich.

The sandwich, especially in English big cities, has become an integral part of the food culture. In London there are many companies that sell sandwiches. The world's largest sandwich producers are McDonald's, Subway, and Burger King restaurant chains.

In the United States, there are many regional varieties of sandwiches. Chicago is famous for its Italian beef sandwiches, Milwaukee for its sausage and sauerkraut sandwiches, Philadelphia for its meat and cheese sandwiches, and Los Angeles for its French sauce sandwiches.

In New Orleans, the championship among sandwiches is contested by "Po Boy" and "Muffaletta". The latter comes from the city's Italian community. The Muffaletta is stuffed with ham, salami, mortadella, provolone, olives and a large amount of garlic is added.

Triangular-shaped sandwiches called "club sandwiches" are also common in the United States. Club sandwiches are often sold in two pieces in plastic or cardboard packages. Typically, 2 club sandwiches are a single sandwich cut diagonally, consisting of rectangular toasts.
