In 2020, the 100th anniversary of the birth of the famous American writer Isaac Asimov (Isaac Yudovich Ozimov) is celebrated. The exact date of birth is unknown due to the difference between the Jewish and Gregorian calendar, but Asimov himself preferred to celebrate his birthday on January 2. The famous science fiction writer, a world-famous scientist, a great popularizer of science, the author of about 500 popular sciences, science fiction, detective publications was born in 1920 in the town of Petrovichi, Shumyachsky district, Smolensk region of Russia. In 1923, the three-year-old Isaac's parents were taken to the United States. Starting to read at age of 5, Isaac drew knowledge in public libraries, where he took books from shelves in a row. He studied quickly and successfully. At age 11, Isaac graduated from high school, at 15 - college and entered the preparatory medical faculty of Columbia University. At the age of 19, the young man graduated from the university, was left there at the Department of Chemistry and at the age of 21 received a master's degree. At the age of 19, he published the first story “ Marooned off Vesta”.  Asimov’s reputation as one of the “founding fathers” of American science fiction owes primarily to two cycles of works. The first cycle is stories and stories about robots: collections of "I, the Robot" (1950), "The caves of steel" (1954), "The Complete Edition of the Stories of Robots" (1982), " The Robots of Dawn" (1983) and others. The basis of the second make up the cycle that tells about the “galactic history of mankind”:“Foundation” (1951), “Foundation and Empire” (1952), “The Second Foundation” (1953), and “Foundation’s Edge” (1982). Isaac Asimov is the author of a large number of collections of short stories, the most famous being: “The Martian Way” (1955), “Nine Tomorrows” (1959), “Buy Jupiter and Other Stories” (1975), and novels: “The End of Eternity” (1956), “The Gods themselves” (1972). He is the recipient of many national and international literary awards, including the repeated winner of the Hugo and Nebula awards. According to Asimov’s novels, numerous adaptations were made. In the popular science genre, he wrote many books on physiology, mathematics, chemistry, history, and literature. Among them are “Life and Energy”, “A Short History of Biology”, “The Universe”, “Biographical Encyclopedia of Science and Technology”, “Guide to the Bible”, and others. In 1979, he published his autobiography, "In Memory Yet Green". In total, the writer has published about 500 books and more than 1000 articles. The great science fiction writer and humanist Isaac Asimov died on April 6, 1992, the body was cremated, the ashes scattered - at the behest of the deceased.
